N.R.

N retained our office after he was charged with serious offences out of Edmonton. It was alleged that N. and another individual broke into a man’s home, and assaulted him with a knife. The homeowner’s girlfriend then released their large dog who proceeded to attack the men and chase them from the home. It was alleged that Mr. R. brandished a knife in the attack. The charges included Break and Enter, Assault, and Possessing a Weapon. Upon reviewing the disclosure material Mr. Wyman identified numerous deficiencies with respect to the Crown’s case. These deficiencies were insurmountable for the Crown and the case against R. was dismissed.

R.M.

Mr. M. was a successful businessman who had been charged with assaulting one of his housing tenants. After months of non-payment of rent, our client attended to the residence to serve an eviction notice. Things became heated and the police were called as a result. When the dust settled Mr. M. was charged with assault. After retaining our office Mr. Wyman worked with the Prosecutor to resolve the file by way of a no contact order. As a result of our office’s efforts, Mr. M.’s charges were withdrawn.

C.M.

Our client, a successful entrepreneur and Chartered Accountant, was charged with assault and dangerous driving as a result of a “road rage” incident which took place during rush hour downtown. It was alleged that C.M. took issue with driving of a fellow motorist, exited his vehicle at a red light, punched him and challenged the driver to a fight. When the complainant took off, it was then alleged that the client chased him for several blocks until the police ultimately intervened. C.M. partook in anger management counselling and ultimately resolved the file for a common assault. While jail is the norm for any road rage incident, Mr. Wyman was able to persuade the presiding judge to impose an absolute discharge. This result ensured that the client retained his unblemished criminal record.

S.Y.

Our client was a high end executive in a local oil and gas company. He lived in BC but travelled routinely to Calgary for work. He hosted a work function at a Calgary Flames game where all parties over indulged. At one point, the client left the Saddledome and later attempted to re-enter. Security intervened and it was alleged that the client threw punches at the officers. The client was then put to the ground where allegedly resisted the arrest by police. As a result of this incident, the client received numerous bruises and abrasions. Mr. Wyman was able to negotiate a resolution prior to trial whereas the client made a charitable donation. Following this donation being made, all charges were withdrawn by the crown.

The client was charged with assault causing bodily harm on a minor. Following an altercation between his 15-year old daughter and the complainant at a Calgary skatepark, our client attended to pick his girl up. Once on scene, it was alleged that the client struck and kicked the underage complainant, breaking her wrist in the process. The matter proceeded to trial where the argument was that of self-defence/defence of others. At the conclusion of matters, the charges were withdrawn.
